Hi. Today I will talk about the culture of China. A large part of Chinese culture revolves around the ancient mythology especially the Zodiac. It contains 12 animals. The rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. The legend is that Buddha invited all of the animals of the earth to a great feast. Only these 12 showed up so he gave them a spot on the Chinese Zodiac calender.
Another part of the culture is there many festivals celebrating everything. There are 15 festivals all together.
New Year eve.
Spring Festival (New Year)
The Lantern Festival
The Clear & Bright Festival
Dragon Boat Festival
Festival of Qing Ming Jie
Moon Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival
Double Ninth
Winter Solstice Festival
Zhonghe
Shangsi
Bathing a basking
The night of heavens festival
Spirit
Laba
We have 7. Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Valentines day, Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, Queen Victoria Day. The only one that is actually a festival is Thanksgiving.
That is my blog for this week. Thanks for reading.

  1. I always knew that the Chinese had animals that symbolized each year, but I just thought it was like that because those animals were the ones that their ancestors had special connections to. I never knew it was because of a Chinese myth. That’s really interesting. I know that each animal symbolizes a year, what was the animal for the year you were born?

  2. James that is very interesting! I can't believe how many celebrations they have. My country, Spain, has a very popular festival. It's the running of the bulls. People from all over the world come to watch that. Are some of those celebrations popular enough to attract many tourists from around the world as well? It was great hearing about your country. Now I'm very interested in learning even more!

  3. That's pretty cool James. I also knew that there were animals of the zodiac representing years but I didnt know about the myth. My favourite thing to do whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant is to check what animal I am. According to your chart, we are ox. That's pretty cool.
